Save El Monte Valley CoalitionIn fall of 2018, a diverse group of San Diego residents including members of the Kumeyaay Nation, environmentalists, and parents rallied against a proposed sand mining project on one of the last remaining natural stretches of the San Diego River, known as El Monte Valley. Concerns included risks to local aquifers, air quality, valley fever, and desecration of sacred Native American sites. CIEJ members testified at a Lakeside Community Planning Group Meeting criticizing the Environmental Impact Report and supporting the local community. Learn more here, here, and here.
